“Committee members, your competencies immensely contributes towards the attainment of our Vision 2030 and the achievement of the Harambee Prosperity Plan therefore the Government of the Republic of Namibia, the Ministry of Land Reform in particular appreciates your tireless efforts and participation in the process of resettlement of our needy people, thus I should congratulate you in your appointments to serve for the three years term till 31st March 2019,” these were the words of Dr. Samuel Mbambo, the Regional Governor of the Kavango East Region as he officially opened the induction training workshop for the Land Reform Advisory Commission’s Regional Resettlement Committees Members for Kavango East, Kavango West and Zambezi Regions in June.
The role of the regional committees is to be able to guide on principles to ensure that tangible developments takes place in communities at large for the land resettlement programmes to succeed in Namibia.
“I should already state here that the institution that comprises the Land Reform Advisory Commission Regional Resettlement Committees is established by an Act of Parliament, the Agricultural (Commercial) Land Reform Act 1995, (Act No 6 of 1995). As committees of the land reform advisory commission, you are therefore performing the duties entrusted upon you by the Government of the Republic of Namibia,” noted the Governor.
According to Dr. Mbambo, the Land Reform Advisory Commission Regional Resettlement Committees are established by the Commission to inquire into land related matters and report with regards to any matter falling within the scope of the functions of the Commission among them the evaluation of applications for resettlement, monitor resettlement farms and promote development in the regions among a host of others.
The Governor urged the committees to put to prime the needs of the needy and the disadvantaged groups of society when recommendation for resettlement come to the foe.
“Communities look upon you to serve their interests related to land allocation and distribution. With this, I would like to emphasize the slogan of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr. Hage Geingob that “no Namibian should feel left out”, therefore let us practice the spirit of Harambee and consider inclusivity and integration of all our people into the main stream for social- economic emancipation.
The committee members’ training workshop comes at the time the nation is to host the 2nd national land conference slated for September this year.
